YaarPool helps people who travel the same way share a ride. This page says what we collect, who can see it, and what you can do. We follow India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
YaarPool is run by Jigar Dhulla, an independent developer. Under the Act, that makes me responsible for your data.
Please read this part. People whose commute matches yours can see the exact start and end of your commute, with street addresses. This can be your home. If you are not comfortable with that, please do not use YaarPool.
What we collect
- Your account: name, email and password. The password is stored scrambled, and we cannot read it.
- Your commute: the home and work places you choose, and the times and days you travel.
- Your vehicle, if you host: type, fuel, seats, make and model, and the last 4 digits of the registration number.
- Your rides: rides you host or ask to join, the requests, and the cost shares.
- Your messages in ride chats.
- Optional profile details: photo, company, job title, LinkedIn link, and a work email. We confirm the work email with a code. It is never shown to anyone.
- Your phone: a code that lets us send you notifications.
- Technical records: such as your IP address and the time of a request. We use them to keep the service safe and to fix problems.
YaarPool does not follow your phone's live location.
Who can see what
- People you match with see your first name and last initial, your photo, your company, and the exact places and street addresses of your commute. A check mark shows next to your company if you confirmed your work email.
- The host and riders on a ride, and a host who is looking at your seat request, can also open your LinkedIn link, if you added one.
- Your job title is kept on your profile and is not shown to other people.
- People on the same ride can read the ride chat.
- Nobody sees your email, your password, your work email or your phone details.
- Your profile photo is stored at a long, random web address. It is not listed anywhere, but anyone who has the exact address can open it.
You can block or report anyone from a ride chat.
Why we use it
To find riders and hosts who travel your way, to run rides and chat, to send you codes and notifications, and to keep the service safe. We do not sell your data and we show no ads. The app never holds ride money.
Payments
Nothing is charged today, so we hold no payment details. If we add a subscription later, the payment will go through the app store (Google Play or the App Store) or a payment provider. We will not see or keep your card details, and we will update this page before we start charging.
Who else handles your data
We use these services to run YaarPool. They only get what they need for the job:
- Laravel Cloud and Neon, for servers and the database. Your data is stored on servers in Singapore.
- Cloudflare, for profile photo storage.
- Resend, to send email codes.
- Google, for maps, route lines and address search. The places you search for are sent to Google.
- Google Firebase, to send notifications to Android phones.
Cookies
This website sets no cookies of its own. The network that serves it (Cloudflare) may set a security cookie, which tells people from bots. The app does not use cookies for tracking, and we show no ads.
Deleting your account
Open the app, go to Profile, and choose Delete account. Right away we remove your name, email, photo, company, commute, vehicle, phone codes and sign-ins. Rides you host that have not happened yet are ended, and the people on them are told.
Rides and chat messages from the past stay, so other people's history still makes sense. They show you as "Deleted user". The pick-up and drop-off places of past rides stay on the ride, without your name.
Our database keeps backups for 7 days. Removed data can stay in a backup for up to 7 days, and then it is gone.
You can also ask us to delete your account without the app. Write to privacy@yaarpool.com from the email you signed up with. We will do it within 30 days.
Your rights
You can see and change your details in the app. You can delete your account, which also ends your consent. You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or complain about how we handle it. Write to privacy@yaarpool.com. We will answer within 30 days. If we do not solve your complaint, you can go to the Data Protection Board of India.
Age
YaarPool is for people aged 18 and over.
Changes
If we change this page in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app. The date at the top always shows the latest version.
